Taiwan steel nail importers face a 78.17% duty risk

U.S. importers of steel nails from Taiwan could still face higher border costs after Commerce preliminarily said two exporters underpriced shipments. The case now centers on Faithful Engineering Products and Top Forever Screws.

U.S. importers of steel nails from Taiwan may pay more at the border after the Commerce Department preliminarily found that Faithful Engineering Products Co., Ltd. and Top Forever Screws Co., Ltd. sold those nails in the United States at unfairly low prices from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.

In plain English, that means the agency found sales below fair market value, the kind of finding that can support antidumping duties and push up what wholesalers, hardware sellers and builders pay at the dock.

A narrower case, not a clean escape

The review did not stay broad. Commerce rescinded it for 20 companies, so most of the firms once tied to the case are no longer under this round of scrutiny.

That leaves a smaller group at the center of the dispute, but not a smaller effect. Even a narrowed review can still shape sourcing decisions for buyers who care about landed cost, not just the sticker price abroad.

A 2015 order still shapes the bill

This latest review sits on top of a longer-running antidumping duty order on nails from Taiwan that dates to July 13, 2015. That older order is the reason a new review still matters to readers who buy, sell or ship these products.

The agency is inviting interested parties to comment on the preliminary results, but it has not said here what the final rates will be. For now, the practical news is uncertainty: two exporters remain under price pressure, while most of the companies in the review are out.
