BSEE holds off on newer API offshore riser standard

Offshore operators on the federal Outer Continental Shelf are not getting API Standard 2RD folded into the rulebook yet. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, or BSEE, says it will not finalize that incorporation now, and it will not make the related changes to Section 250.733 in this rule.

That means the older riser standard remains the reference point for now, which matters because a standards citation is often what tells crews and engineers what counts as compliant work offshore.

What stays on the page

BSEE says it will make a later decision on whether to incorporate some or all of the standard in a final rule. Until then, the existing requirement stays in place rather than being replaced by API Standard 2RD.

For operators, the practical effect is simple: no immediate shift to a new riser standard, and no new compliance rewrite tied to this change today.
