West Virginia would back ibogaine trials with state grants

In West Virginia, House Bill 4626 would create a grant program run by the Secretary of Health to pay for public-private drug-development trials with ibogaine. The bill is aimed at helping move the compound through Food and Drug Administration approval for use against opioid use disorder, co-occurring substance use disorder and other neurological or mental health conditions where ibogaine shows efficacy.

A state wager on a new treatment path

The proposal does not just treat ibogaine as a research topic. It turns the compound into a state-backed bet that clinical trials could build enough evidence for the FDA to consider it as a treatment option for some of the most stubborn addiction and brain-health problems.
