West Virginia lets treasurer guards carry concealed guns

West Virginia law now lets some State Treasurer security staff carry concealed guns while on duty, as long as they get written approval, hold a concealed handgun license and complete training equal to the state police academy's entry-level course.

That keeps the change focused on a narrow slice of workers, not a broader weapons rule. The measure would make the security detail's carry authority explicit in state law, but it would also set a high bar before anyone could use it.

A tight set of conditions

The proposal does not read like a general carry expansion. It gives the treasurer discretion to authorize concealed weapons for security personnel, but only while they are performing official duties and only under the bill's training and eligibility requirements.
